               Blight or Light

The winter chill is a bitter pill
to some
but many find the beauty
of the frosty morning
when the pumpkin is long gone
and Thanksgiving
just a memory as Christmas
prepares to break bright and clear
part of the faith we hold so dear.

In Bethlehem’s stable Mary was able
to give birth to Jesus
God’s only Son
destined to be our Savior
as well as our friend
the agent of eternal bonding
man with our Heavenly Father
man with fellow man
the results of Love’s true demand.

Is life a blight or something bright?
Christmas is proves the latter
not the twinkling lights or carols
for poverty and grief
still walk the earth
but in the Christ Child is hope
for today, for tomorrow, for eternity
He takes away our doubts, tears
and quells, as we let Him, all our fears.

Joy! Peace! this Christmas season
Remember, Jesus’ love is the reason.

         Hear the Call of Christmas

Hear the call of Christmas
Come worship
In the silence of the winter snow
Know God
who He was, is, and will be
let Him touch your heart,  set you free.

Hear the call of Christmas
a time of rest, peace
a time to eat, to play, to rest
be still
cry if needed, wipe away the tear
be bold, Let God handle each fear.

Hear the call of Christmas
penitence gives way
to those who open their heart
great joy!
in the celebration of Jesus’ birth
when God became man on the earth.

Hear the call of Christmas
carols echo
thru packed as well as lonely streets
the New Year soon beckons
carry the joy, the faith, the hope forward
be bold, patient, loving, never backward.

             Hanukkah for Today

To look forward we must also look to the past
the milestones, markers
of where God has been
what He has done
in history as well as our life
otherwise, we open ourselves to strife.

One day of oil stretches to cover eight
the Temple rededicated
candles and celebration
‘tis what God did
The question is now what will we do
sadly, many in this world haven’t a clue.

Man was not made to live in the past
but in remembering
draw enlightenment
find hope
then move forward in faith and love
bold as the lion, gentle as a turtle dove.

      CHRISTMAS HAS A REASON

I have kept the Christmas season
in Alaska’s winter chill
the desert brown
the jungle’s deep green
treeless places
and in the piney woods
with family
and at times without
I’ve worshiped in Churches beautiful
in temporary tents
and temporary buildings
I have given gifts
received the same
enjoyed fine Christmas meals
as well as mess tent food
I have grown in understanding
in faith
for I am on a pilgrimage
I know not the answers to life
nor really have a grasp
of life’s questions
I am a simple man, yet complex
I have lived years
but not as many as I want
you ask what I have learned?
that when examined
each true life type question
has Jesus as the answer
for He was born
God becoming man
He lived, showing us how
died in our place
and was resurrected
showing us the path to eternity
so this Christmas I say
Jesus the Christ is the reason!
