"Be Still"
There is a quietness in a moment
when all is still
yet
we are often afraid
of the Silence
and use much noise
to fill the void.
And God said "Be Still"
and KNOW that I Am God!"
We stop! We pause! Frustration!
we start our "doing"
though
we are in fact known as
human beings
but we don't know how
simply "to be!"
And God said "Be Still"
and KNOW that I Am God!"
Stargazer, Stargazer, do you see?
the vastness!
WOW!
don't fear insignificance
inferiority
for we are made and loved
by God Himself.
Just listen, "Be Still"
and KNOW that I Am God!"

"A Moment of Reflection"
A Fence Post and A Flower
May and June thoughts
of what is
what was or might have been
memories are not a sin.
We humans rush like Lemmings
to the finality of sea
stop, enjoy, reflect
we were, we became, we are
make the journey long, far.
I remember childhood joys
mother and dad
himself, solid as a post
mother, a small lovely flower
together they gave my life power.
Know where you've been
focus, where God
has you going
honor mother and dad
it's necessary, it is not a fad.
Boy, dad, granddad, maybe great
Girl, mother, grandmother, more
yet still remains
the boy inside the man
the girl grown into a woman.dc riggs © 13 May 2006
"In Memory for Mother"
Good morning Mother I want to say
thank you for tying knots
in shoelaces
so I won't trip or fall
you're the most loving mMm of all.
Child, adult, my love is true
I hope you know that I'm missing you.
Let me cook breakfast for you Mom
your favorites I would do
you did for me
to meet my desire and need
many wonderful meals you did feed.
Child, adult, my love is true
I hope you know that I'm missing you.
Teenage pain, hormones popping
questions without answers
life is rough when young
did I drive you mad?
forgive me the times I made you sad.
Child, adult, my love is true
I hope you know that I'm missing you.
How I want to call you right now
to find out how your are
to say "I Love You"
even though I call from afar
waterways, skyways, or of pitch and tar.
Child, adult, my love is true
I hope you know that I'm missing you.
The years slip by, since you too slipped
the bonds of this earth
but in my heart you do live
your teachings, support, and love
a gift you were, are, from our Lord above.
Child, adult, my love is true
I hope you know that I'm missing you.

"Time's Momentum"
Time slips by without our knowing
funny how once
it tended to slowly drag
but the years
build the momentum of downhill
and though
we sometimes tumble
sometimes spill
the momentum builds
and our journey
from womb to grave
seems to escalate
as our bodies
slow down, ache, creak
the challenge
to enjoy each day
is not for the very weak
but for the strong
who will ignore the pain
to love and enjoy
and with God's blessings
we live in the now, not the once
and give to this life a special glowing.

"At Rope's End"
I came to the end of my rope
what then
was left of my hope?
nothing!
for this man made of sod
but still my trust is in my God!
At rope's end a knot do tie
never quit, never fail to try!
Debts to the right of me
debts to the left
are failures the key
to success?
onward I must go
retreat is a rest in life's flow.
At rope's end a knot do tie
never quit, never fail to try!
In matters of the inner heart
God's will be done
with His will I must start
each day
is a new beginning
built upon yesterday's ending.
At rope's end a knot do tie
never quit, never fail to try!
Thru out life's journey is God
holding our hand
perfect balance of love and rod
He grows us to be
the blend of boy and man
the harmony of girl and woman.
So, at rope's end a knot do tie
never quit, never fail to try!
Tomorrow will be a grand day
each day is a plus
and for those I love I pray
and for enemies too
God's strength, guidance, love
to be real within, not simply above.
God help you, a knot to tie
never quit! climb! never fail to try!

"Play on Threes"
The heat, the ice, the day
a time to work
a time to nap
a time set aside for play.
Walk, trot, maybe run
a place to go
a place to visit
an ending, a race begun.
Dawn, noon, and night
food to eat
fellowship to enjoy
tired, lack of rest is a blight.
Dog, cat, hopefully a horse
four legs
each a personality
a potential companion of course.

“Lee and Mary Shannon”
Two lives brought together
God’s union
a man
and a woman
not two birds of a feather
but two souls
destined to walk
as one
through life
heart hand in heart hand
sharing in talk
both times of peace and worry
fears and calmness
lifting each the other
as through the maze of life
they scurry
be blessed you two
laugh, cry, enjoy the day
remember the “was”
look forward
to the “yet will be”
take time to humbly pray
take in stride
the day of bad weather
as you do the day
that is far from perfect
and remember
that you walk together.

"Laughter"
To the solemn I would gladly give
so that they might live
Laughter!
a chuckle or a grin
something to feel, deep within.
Why so downcast and sad?
why so angry? 'tis bad!
Laughter!
is the cure for the common grouch
so get with it and don't be a slouch!
Do you feel overcome by tears
try this when beset by your fears
Laughter!
don't be a wallflower or a bore
let it rip, with a bellow, let it roar!
"'Tis, wise men say, a gift of God
to us poor creatures of sod
Laughter!
and I for one believe the rumor
God, Himself, has a sense of humor!

"The Clown"
and the clown juggled
tripped
then he fell
and the people laughed.
the spotlight he chased
around
the circus ring
and the people laughed.
fingers he sewed
together
a bumbling idiot
and the people laughed.
the tear that was shed
flowing
from his heart
and the people laughed.
the mouth opened to share
silence
what was there to say?
and the people again laughed.

"Life is Made"
Life is made
of laughter and tears
times for the bold
and when we relent to fears
when the crowd boos
as well as when
the crowd gives cheers
times of loneliness
then sweet ones
when we know we are loved
the moments
when we feel wise
balanced of course by
the time we feel rather dumb
it is no surprise
for life
is a mixture
of peace
and of strife
variety keeps pumping
though tired
we may often be
and take time to sit
but then we move
God is on His Throne
His hand leading
for we are not a mere drone
but men and women
who cry, moan, worry, sorrow
laugh, love, play, and pray
remembering
yet looking on to tomorrow
complex, beyond understanding
yet in God's plan
for the young and old
the complacent and demanding
of this is our life made.

"Be Calm"
Be calm my soul
being bold
has its time
its place
as does fine gold
but be calm
be gently meditative
allow God
Himself to speak
as you are a bit reflective
be calm
be this once still
to know
that He is God
let Him your heart fill
be calm
you need not sleep
when in Him
you rest
within His peace so deep
be calm.
And in the light of the Son
Walk! Share! Love! Have Fun!

"Tale of Two Soldiers"
They were not two ships passing
they were soldiers
German Private, American Major
on opposite sides
of a bridge
called, "Remagen," remember it well.
The Fatherland and Old Glory
common themes
Apple Pie, Apple Strudel
kill, be killed
survive
both would live, their story to tell.
Doctor of Music, Doctor of Medicine
the future did come
touching lives positively
rewarding vocations
callings
far from battlefields where friends fell.
Christians, Brothers in the Faith
a local Episcopal Church
worshipping togeter
beautiful
what God does
the pains of war to heal, hurts quell.
Enemies to friends, Churchmen each
in my memory
their names are forgotten
but not to our Lord
transformation
should ring Freedom's golden bell.

"Keep the Beat"
Keep the beat little one
listen with
those big ears
and what
pray tell do you hear?
can you hear a falling tear?
Keep the beat little one
maintain please
the smile
grinning it seems
for life is often rough
and you don't look tough.
Keep the beat little one
life needs rhythm
to hum
do you have timing?
an ability to be rhyming?
Keep the beat little one
others have lost
their own
will you be God's tool
to call them on
without God your but a con.
Keep the beat little one
remember the happy times
love and laughter
hope and fulfillment
the time of heart's peace
may your beat never cease.

"Taps, Freedom's Sound"
Taps, Taps, the sound gently raps
at my heart's door
as I remember
those who are no more.
Bugle's notes, a haunting tune
signaling the end
of someone's personal future
death has no bend.
The call comes to each one
Freedom's Dream, Nation's Pride
some pay the full price
in service to Country they died.
Blood, sweat, fears and tears
Freedom's price is high
let us live with firm courage
keeping the faith of those who die.
Remember! Remember! Honor
those who are now dead
keep this Nation strong
with Freedom's food be fed.
So taps ring with a gentle loud
honoring that now done
lives lost, sacrifice
yet heralding a new day begun.
