            "Tears"

The tear formed
deep within the hurting heart
the scars of denial
had scabbed
the pain repressed
then the tear trickled down
the floodgates of pain
opened as a fissure in the earth
but the tears
brought relief from pain
many tears, many tears, many fears
yet moment by moment
day by day
the healing grows
never replacing that which was
yet opening the door
to what lies ahead
"tears", God's special gift
to give the hurting soul a lift.

      "The Opal Question"

I once was a child of seven too
not of angel parents
nor a drop of French blood
then I am neither genius or mad
though some might argue
for the latter
so what is the answer for Opal?
Yes, No, No, Maybe, Maybe
the mystery is deep
the evidence far too faded
but we enjoy
contemplate and wonder
for once, we were each seven too.

There is a tender sadness as a leaf
falls from the family tree
some of the pain
is knowing it is part of me
so amazing
the ancestral roots
long gone, intertwined
with other families
through marriage and then birth
is a common thread
for all who live on earth
in the winter parents
fall from the tree
and those closest mourn
yet greater still
the pain of the young leaf
who falls in the summer or spring
prematurely plucked
thus is the saga of a human leaf.

God made the blue of the skies
for birds and men with crafted wings
to soar above Creation’s grandeur
where moves the history
of humankind
its tapestry an amazing story
of rebellion and of love
man’s sin, God’s redemption
through His Son, Jesus the Christ
and in the midst of battle
and times of peace
stands the Chaplain
introducing the created to their Creator
under the canopy of blue skies.

A child is born
held in loving arms
what will they someday become?
will they fulfill
the unfulfilled dreams
of the previous generation?
or grow dreams of their own?
the question hangs
for many years
'til hair turns gray
many birthdays have passed
many dreams fulfilled
yet, the path lies ahead
more dreams
hopes, the mystery of tomorrow
calls with enticing breath
do you hear it?
then listen, listen, follow
for 'tis the same voice
that called the day you were born.

Passover, Holy Week
perpetual story
of love and redemption
the sinfulness of man
washed clean
by the blood of the perfect lamb
the miracles of life
God's children
provided for
in the deserts of desolation
daily bread given
received
wishy-washy people
pious, sincere, ungrateful
waxing hot
freezing with callous cold
so sad
man's inhumanity to man
God's love
Jesus the Christ
triumphant, slain, resurrected
as we wander
through this time, in this place
He calls us to remember
reconnect, to move forward
Passover, Holy Week.

The color of the day
bright is its hue
yet many walk life's paths
without a clue
did you take notice
of the wisp of a cloud
giving tone to the sky above
or did you stop
to wonder at the beauty
of either the hawk or dove?
the self-centered ignore
the Creator and His creation
are they selfish to the core?

The color of the night
soft, gentle value
a time to find peace, calm
day comes to its close
yet there are those
who never stop
full throttle, on the go
for what do they search?
immortality? fame?
one-upmanships game to win?
again they need to learn
of the Creator, creation
if at evening, truth to discern.
