     “When Daddy Is Deployed

The days are long when daddy’s gone
deployed far away
more awkward than waiting for Christmas
sunny days, snow days
as well as the days of rain
might be fun
but still,
the heart knows daddy’s gone.

In the family circle memories
are made
the bond of blood
may be strong
but the interaction
in work, play, and worship
make it stronger
helps us through tears
enhances joy, comforts when we are afraid.

The Father made man, then made woman
united them together, making them one
before giving them children
parents love and honor
each child
each child does the same to them
in future years of adversity, loss, or pain
family strength will enable each find their “I Can”.

  "Don't Worry About the Obits"

Seldom do I read the obits
I'd not want to see
my name listed there
but sure at sometime it will be
not right now is my plea.

Headlines I have never sought
one should have been
"Old Joe is dead!"
to sin, by God's saving grace
that would put a smile on a face.

Not dead to sin so I could boast
hold my nose over others
bash them with my spirituality
for it says with God I am reconciled
and grace needs not to be defiled.

The day will come when the obits
have my name listed there
'tis alright
for I will have left earth's shore
to dwell with the Father forevermore.

               "Friends"

Say: Hello, Howdy, or Hi
to new friends
added to those who are old
friendships warm
inner souls in a world quite cold.

A smile, a grin, a bit of twinkle
in one's eye
the trade of happiness to ply
lift up the despondent
take arms against the sorrowful sigh.

Some friends are located close
others far away
the phone, email, or mail by snail
communication is key
it at this many tend to fail.

Ever ask: How do you find and keep
this thing called a friend?
the answer is simple
take the time to honestly be one
your life will be richer
important now, and when life is done.

               "Defining Danny"

Who are you, what life are you painting
a question that makes
me to wonder
to ask, even as a new day is breaking.

I consider myself a simple soul
complex in my way
insecure, timid
but people often see me as bold

From my heart, friendship I offer
a smile I'm ready to give
a grin
to the sad I'll gladly proffer.

A migrant worker I've claimed to be
different jobs, tasks
circling the globe
a product of a land which is free

A private person, "Yes" but I give
of myself to others
a romantic
who by heart will often choose to live

I kneel each day before my God
in worship, trust
friendship
just a simple man shaped from sod.

Ah, my friend,, ‘Tis a question I  ask
Who is danny?
interesting
and the defining is a lifelong task.
