            On A Winter Day

The leaves are fallen and gone
winter among the trees
though barren
there is the memory of life
a special gift
which in spring will return
something real, nothing we earn.

Life is full of passing seasons
reasons are vague
confusing
joy mixed with strife
exhilarating
for the young and the old
even for the timid and the bold.

God created heaven and earth
each of the seasons
creation in pairs
mankind, fish, and wildlife
all He created good
to bless on the summer and winter day
to listen, when each pauses to pray.

The lake calls, as do the trees
rocks and grass
all are still
yet the scene is not devoid of life
come walk the trail with me
know this winter day, water and tree.
