Coffee Contemplating by the Barn

The morning still is breaking
the early chores are done
now it's time to sit
and enjoy
the beginning of this day
sunrise, hot coffee
it's time to contemplate I say.
To contemplate, to pray
simply being still
is more than my routine
it is vital
to my attitude and outlook
for the day will unfold
and time is a very sly crook.
Time takes a different look
at my life, my goals
my work and my play
it's indifferent
and unless I am very careful
the day will slip away
but my plan is to be sure it's full.
Fulfilling rather than just full
is my goal, my dream
there's work to do
as well as play
so my contemplation is not lost
in a frivolous pursuit
it's planning, counting the cost.
So here I sit, for I am the boss
in Command of my time
my attitude, outlook
in partnership
with my Creator, my God
making this day
worthwhile, not a modern facade.
